Bunch of lucky PR/ foreigner already have enough blessing from PAP/ PA member, unless PR/ foreigner are same as PAP/ PA member who are too obsessed with own achievement

Sole illusion is PR/ foreigner think too highly of themselves, but sad fact is Singaporean has long lost pride in country with government that no longer represent people

However, most upright common Singaporean would not stoop to any mischief; neither would most Singaporean oblige to be in cohort with such extreme pro-foreigner stance

not only the gahmen does not represent the people the gahmen longer respect the people and r not sensitive to the feelings of the people. The citizens who are around, they take it for granted that these people won’t leave.

These PRs, New Citizens and Foreigners even talk down . I think Singaporeans have been too accommodating? Too nice?

Straits Times Jan 23, 2003
Singapore Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew has on occasion reminded Malaysia’s top leadership that Singapore would not hesitate to go in and defend the water catchment areas in Johor in an emergency in order to ensure that Singapore continued to receive its water supply.

He told British Foreign Office officer, Ms Veronica E. Feign secretly that “if Malaysia attempts to amend the terms of the agreement, Singapore will see it as an act of war”.

Yet, Bukit Batok Community Club is planning to waste our precious water for fun and party!

Singapore Minister Yaacob Ibrahim Addresses the World Water Forum in Turkey Mar 20, 2009.
“Dr. Ibrahim spoke about Singapore’s experience in Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM), and facing similar water challenges to what many countries experience today, notably the need to provide sufficient water and basic sanitation.”

Is Singapore a part of the world community on World Water Day?

“A shortage of water resources could spell increased conflicts in the future. Population growth will make the problem worse. So will climate change. As the global economy grows, so will its thirst. Many more conflicts lie just over the horizon.” — Ban Ki-Moon (UN)

confused you illiterate fool. Whats the point of the “babi” blood comment? Im not a muslim but you are obviously trying to take a crack at em for something. Maybe you should get your head out your arse and notice that many Singaporeans are Muslims and that Cambodians, Laotians, Burmese, and most Thais are not. Even if you did find something equally offensive to splash on these people what is the point?

Blame the policies not the people. If an opportunity is there you will take it. They owe us nothing. Our government owes us everything.

Please stop being such a Nazi thug, and use your head and your heart.

Hello Bird Talk – well rationalised.
native Singaporean NS Men to be sent to defend n die for precious water catchment areas while waters are wasted on foreigners.
Next maybe native Singaporean NS Men deploy on our streets to suppress protestors and supporters of oppositions.

We should frequently verify the words n actions of public servants who are in powerful positions; especially those who are also highly paid.
We can cross-reference what they do & say today with those of yesterday, last week, last month, last year, 3 years ago and 10 years ago or their actions n words from other issues.
Consciously one can scheme n fabricate our actions n words to deceive others; however,
One’s sub-conscious and un-conscious state of mind will betray one in moments of anxiety, excitement, stress, forgetfulness, urgency, emergency and etc.
My advice to all of you who aspire to have a more democratic, more leveled, fairer Singapore to scrutinize all who are in public service – including the politicians – more so the entrenched old foxes n wolves.

One can support the Water Festival in the spirit of cultural egalitarianism but still have reservations with regards to the water. In this, we are appreciating the culture of another whilst seeking a way to address related and pragmatic concerns.

To do otherwise is to throw the baby out in favour of the bathwater mates.

ed

postscript: p.s. I retracted the original supportive 'placard' call in favour of participation or a sign of some sort that does not amount to a demonstration - since the water festival isn't being held in 'speakers corner'.

  1. Interesting to see the reaction to the SWF initiative. I suppose for most the initial response would be one that focuses on 'us vs them' ('Local' vs 'Foreigners') considering the current high influx of 'foreigners' working in this country. If we all see ourselves as fellow human beings/ workers who go through similar struggle to make ends meet, shouldn't we be protesting against the real culprits and focus on 'Exploiters vs Exploited' instead? In this case those who are involved in implementing policies which directly or indirectly suppress ALL workers' wages. And for those who shows aversion towards ‘foreigners’ for one reason or another, ask yourself, how would you feel when you are given the same treatment if you were in foreign country (whether for leisure or work)? Be objective and cautious and not let racist/ fascistic behaviour creep into your system. Whether its the ruling party or the opposition, don’t be that readily convinced by their call for your support. Judge base on the essence of the issue.

  2. To sim above, good post.

Just something I would like to add. In academic terms, the predisposition for the "us versus them" mentality in the Chinese (and the Chinese-impacted) are Chinese chauvinism, xenophobia as well as sinocentricism. All three predisposing mindsets have their outward expression in racism (ie. the words and the actions).

Of the three mindsets, sinocentricism is by far the most common and 'least offensive', if there can be such a thing. It results in the exclusion of non-Chinese races, as well as its corolllary, Chinese exclusivity. (Eg. Saying "Asian values" when one means only Chinese ones.)

As minorities, we have long been at the receiving end of the racism that is the result of those mindsets. It should surprise no one when we don't wish to support any xenophobix initiative.

So long as the us versus them mentality continues to exist in the Chinese, it can be turned around - and frequently does - and used against us minorities.

  3. Please ignore this Support Water Festival initiative. The initiator himself is a racist/facist. If you read some of the articles in this blog, you will find that he is spreading the seed of hatred toward the Chinese race. He is not even in Singapore now. Perhaps he wants to mimic Thaksin, but we should not be his red shirt protestor.

  4. Anon - 12/4/10 1909hrs.

You mean to say as a thorougher bred Singaporean, Who may be abroad on vacation or on work project. Should not keep abreast on the happenings of his country of birth and as a citizen. To even make comments in the blog?
How much a shallow and a repressive thought in Confucianism can you be in possession!

  5. He is welcomed to keep abreast on the happenings of his country of birth. But don't be a coward, hiding behind the computer screen in another country and instigate other people to go on a confrontation for him. Come back to support your own initiative.
Anyway you racists have no moral value, you won' understand what is integrity.

  6. Making people aware of racism and apathy is not spreading hatred. Like ed says, it is to create awareness and encourage people to get rid of it.

Don't you think if one race and culture is favoured over others they would become arrogant and self-centred after a while? Same thing if we favour one child over other children in our families right.

So why is it racist/fascist to say that if that is true then the chinese in singapore might show the same tendencies? Before calling ed racist we should look at the evidence right? Don't be stupid about this.

Are you not aware that there Ministers who are fond of making policy announcements, while abroad? So do you consider them cowards too ?

Tsk tsk.. here, come on, a pot calling a kettle black?
Firstly, how do you come up with the conclusion about your accusation?
Futhermore, aren’t you doing what you’ve accused others of doing? (signing off as ‘Anonymous’) There are options for you to include your name as well as your site, so no excuse for that.

Show and prove (like what a2ed has done with well argued evidence/s) before terming others ‘racists‘ It’s easy to accuse others without justification. Those who have followed and read the articles in a2ed would realise that the topics and issues discussed normally focus on the oversights by the general public, including the netizens. There are many examples in this site which have exhibited that.

  9. Haha, sim, just when I logged in to include one little bit of information in my post to you, I see you have posted your secong one here.

Okay, just thought I'd add that I did not mean to suggest with the three predisposing mindsets that I referred to that they exist in three "types of racists". In fact they are three alternating mindsets within the same individual/s.

  10. To the anonymous cowards hiding behind his computer and under a cloak of anonymity, and thinks that what ed writes constitutes "racism", what would you call it when gays lash out against homophobia?

I do, and I want to know the name for my disease.

In the meantime, I will continue to maintain that your fascist attempts at obfuscating anti-racism" with "racism" are just attempts at guilting the speaker into silence.

Have you ever known that to work?
